Three ULFA cadres held, explosives seized

Guwahati, Aug 3 (UNI) Three ULFA rebels were arrested from different hideouts here late last night, police informed today.

One Dibjyoti Baruah (23) was arrested from Santipur area of the city.

Police said 25 detonators, four packets of liquid explosive gel, two bundles of fuse wire and some flexible wire were recovered from him.

In another arrest, two militants were held by Dispur police from Beltola area. Both were working in two organisations as security guards and shared a rented quarters. They were identified as Manu Medhi (22) and Utpal Rajbongshi (22) and hailed from Nagrijuli in Baska district. Incriminating documents were recovered from their possession. Police suspect that the two cadres were used for serving extortion notes and provided shelter to other ULFA cadres.

They were remanded in a three day police custody.

CCA approves two key appointments

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Appointments has extended the tenure of Mr Sundeep Khanna, additional secretary in the ministry of social justice and empowerment till March 2008, according to an official statement issued today. Meanwhile, Ms Renuka Viswanathan, secretary for coordinationa and public grievances in the cabinet secretariat, will hold additional charge as chairperson at the National Authority for Weapons Convention, the statement added.
