Three of family killed in road accident

Salem, Tamil Nadu, Aug 3 (UNI) Three members of a family were crushed to death, while two others sustained serious injuries when their car collided with a private bus near Sangagiri, today.

Police said the victims were proceeding to Moganur from Kumarapalayam to visit their relatives when the accident occurred.

The driver tried to overtake a truck when the bus coming from the opposite direction collided with the car.

The deceased were identified as Thangaraj (45), an engineer working in a private company at Kumarapalayam, his wife Prabha (38) and daughter Preetha (7). While the couple died on the spot, Preetha succumbed to injuries on the way to a hospital, police said.

Thangaraj's other daughter Janata (13) and his brother Palanisamy (40), who were injured, were admitted to the Erode Government Hospital.

Flood situation improves in Lower Dibang Valley

Combined Defence Services written exam. results declared

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) A total of 7553 candidates have qualified for interview for admission to five premier defence establishments, including the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and the Naval Academy, Goa. The three other defence academies are Air Force Academy, Hyderabad, Officers' Training Academy, Chennai and Officers' Training Academy. The results, announced today by the UPSC, were based on the Combined Defence Services Examination held in February this year. The interviews are to be conducted.....

679 Pilgrims leave for Amarnath

Jammu, Aug 3 (UNI) A batch of 679 pilgrims today left for Pahalgam and Baltal base camps from where they will move towards the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir, official sources said.
