Sarabjit snatches match-winner for PSEB in Punjab league

Chandigarh, Aug 3 (UNI) A last-second half goal helped Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), Hoshiarpur eke out a narrow 1-0 victory over Jagatjit Cotton Textile Academy in the 21st Punjab State Super Football League at the Guru Nanak College Ground in Phagwara.

After a barren first half, PSEB, who got promotion from Division II, snatched the all-important goal through Sarabjit Singh in the 75th minute. It was second win for the Hoshiarpur powermen from five matches they have contested so far.

They have drawn two encounters and lost one for eight points.

They have scored seven goals and coceded four for a goal difference of plush 3. PSEB have moved to third position in the points tally.

JCT Academy which have given an impressive display so far suffered their second defeat from five matches. They have won two and drawn one.

With seven points JCT Academy were lying at the fourth spot.

Rail Coach Factory of Kapurthala and Punjab Police were at the first and second places with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

JCT Academy players induldged in rough play in the second half and its players Amandeep Singh (66th), Dilshad Ahmed (84th) and Balwant Singh (85th) were shown yellow cards. Sandeep Sangha of PSEB was also shown the yellow card in the 83rd minute.

Minor girl raped in Kangra district of HP

Dharamshala, Aug 3 (UNI) A minor boy raped a minor girl from Chhattisgarh in a village in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday night when her parents were not at home, district ASP Santosh Patial said today. The ten-year old girl, a resident of Chattisgarh, had gone to a ond to wash the utensils when the 15-year boy from Bihar dragged her to a secluded place and raped her. Mr Patial said the boy also threatened.....

Death sentence in Beant case 'unfortunate': SGPC

Amritsar, Aug 3 (UNI) Reacting to the death sentence awarded to Babbar Khalsa terrorists Jagtar Singh Hawara and Balwant Singh in the Beant Singh assassination case, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC) termed the decision of the Special CBI Court as "unfortnate". " The judge should have considered the circustances that led to the crime", SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar in a statement here today.
