Salman's charm, Govinda's comic timing in 'Partner' rock UK too

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) After wowing cinegoers at home, the magic of Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan and the brilliant comic timing of Govinda in David Dhawan's 'Partner' has swept overseas audiences too off their feet.

Besides a stupendous audience response across India, 'Partner' has rocked the box office in the United Kingdom, figuring on the top ten charts for two consecutive weekends since its release.

Having released in theatres across the World on July 20, 'Partner' stood at number five in the UK top ten in its opening weekend itself with collections of 236,766 UK Pounds (approx Rs 2 crore) from 43 cinema screens. What was notable was that the David Dhawan-directed film figured on the top ten charts alongside Hollywood blockbusters like 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix', 'Shrek 3' and 'Ocean's Thirteen'.

Further remarkable was the fact that 'Partner' had the third highest per screen average at 5,506 pounds, behind only 'Harry Potter' and the 'Hair Spray'. The film's good showing in the UK continued in its second week with 'Partner' dropping just two places to seventh rank in the UK top ten.

In its second weekend, 'Partner' notched up collections of 138,523 pounds (Rs 1.1 crore). The total collections of the film in the first ten days of its release have come to 570,300 pounds (approximately Rs 4.5 crore).

In the US too, 'Partner' grossed 584,245 dollars in its opening weekend with a per screen average of 10,073 dollars and figured at number 15 on the box office charts.

The film has notched up collections of 718,872 dollars from the US in the first week.

The film has also done well in Australia, earning 50,227 Australian dollars in the first week from 12 theaters.

Trade analysts say that the stupendous response to 'Partner in the United Kingdom and the United States was in a way a reiteration of the huge draw commanded by Salman Khan overseas.

For Salman, the success of 'Partner' in UK follows close on heels of good showing of his earlier films like 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi', 'No Entry', 'Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya' and 'Lucky No Time for Love'.

On the other hand, 'Partner's success is also a sign of growing popularity of Govinda and his unique brand of comedy, following as it does close on the heels of the above-average response of his earlier film 'Salaam-E-Ishq' in UK.

'Partner' is already a huge success in India, having netted a whopping Rs 30 crore in its first week. In fact, trade analysts say the movie was on way to become a superhit in India.
