RSP registers all time best performance in July

Bhubaneswar, Aug 03 (UNI) The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited, commenced the second quarter of 2007-08 registering best performance for any month of July since inception of the plant.

According to a RSP release today, during the month, Hot Metal production from blast furnaces went up to 1,91,347 tonnes, crude steel output stood at 1,76,108 tonnes and total Saleable Steel output touched 1,82,747 tonnes.

At the same time these units achieved exceptional capacity utilisation of 113 per cent in Hot Metal, 109 per cent in Crude Steel and an impressive 129 per cent in Saleable Steel.

Besides, the dispatch of steel was the highest compared to any month of July with 1,84,674 tonnes, registering a growth of 19 per cent as compared to July 2006.

It was noteworthy that the achievement in Saleable Steel production and dispatch of steel was 102 per cent and 103 per cent respectively of the Annual Performance Plan for July.

Pakistan Supreme Court orders Hashmi's release

Islamabad, Aug 3 (UNI) Pakistan's Supreme Court today ordered release of a top opposition leader and vice President of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, who was serving 23 year jail term for defaming the armed forces. A three-member bench headed by recently reinstated Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, ordered Hashmi's release on surity bonds worth 50,000 rupees. 11 more deaths with deluge in central Bangladesh

Dhaka, Aug 3 (UNI) Eleven more flood-related deaths were reported today raising the toll to 65 as the current flood situation worsened in central parts of Bangladesh with swelling of major rivers, officials said. An official of the flood control room said some 700,0000 people of 150,0000 families have been affected by the flood waters that hit 206 sub-districts in 38 districts causing colossal damage to property and standing crops. The official said more than 20,0000 affected.....
