Ronga is new J

Srinagar, Aug 3 (UNI) Senior advocate Nazir Ahmad Ronga was elected president of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association after he defeated his nearest rival advocate Mohammad Shafi Reshi.

Mr Ronga scored 238 votes against Reshi who got 97 votes while Majid Jehangir scored 69 votes.

Ronga defeated Majid Jehangir and Muhammad Shafi Reshi who got 69 and 97 votes respectively. Ronga secured 238 votes out of 404 polled.

Mr Ronga replaced advocate Mian Abdul Qayoum who did not contest.

Later addressing the lawyers, Mr Ronga said the Bar would function as an institution and would not take dictations from any party and person.

Bar would continue to work for the people, nation and above all the Kashmir cause, he said.

Advocate Mohammad Abdullah Pandit was elected vice-president while Mohamamd Ashraf Bhat will be the general secretary.

Advocate Bashir Siddique was elected unopposed to the post of joint secretary for the fourth successive term.

Ahmedabad, Aug 3 (UNI) Lured by the success story of Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat Government, in partnership with EMRI, today officially announced that it would set up 108 emergency service operations in the city. Woman attempts suicide after strangulating baby girl

Varanasi, Aug 3 (UNI) Peeved over husband's inability to finance her visit to parent's house, a young woman attempted suicide after allegedly strangulating her baby girl in the Lohta area here early today. Saroj (25) first strangulated her six-month old daughter and then attempted to end her life by jumping off from the house terrace in the Dhanipur village, police said.
