Relatives fail to meet Kafeel's family 'due to media presence'

Bangalore, Aug 3 (UNI) The family members of Kafeel Ahmed, the prime suspect in the failed Glasgow Airport Attack case who succumbed to burn injuries in Scotland last night, living in the Banashankari area of the city, today remained confined to their house.

A battery of mediapersons, both electronic and print, had been waiting here since morning to talk to parents and Kafeel's sibling for their reaction over his demise and whether the body would be brought here for burial.

But the house was out of bounds for not only the media, but even to some of the relatives and even police officers. The long wait proved abortive for the media who, one after the other, moved off after the futile exercise.

Their effort to make the inmates of the house speak to them went in vain as Kafeel's father Maqbool Ahmed shouted at them many times, and exhorted them to go away.

Till 1130 hrs, there was no sign of anybody calling on the family in person or the family coming out to talk to the waiting media.

However, at about 1140 hrs, one person went in front of the gate and tried to get the family's attention to seek entry into the house.

However, when failing in his attempt to convey his condolence, the person, who identified himself as W S Basheer, a businessman told reporters he had come to offer his condolences.

''However bad a person may be, we have to offer condolence after his death. This custom prevails both in Hindu and Muslim religions.

Butt I have to return since they did not open the door because of your (media) presence,'' he complained.

At about 1430 hrs, a person said to be relative of Kafeel's father alighted from an autorickshaw and tried in vain to enter but the doors were not opened.

When the media tried to talk to him to know whether he was a relative, he started shouting ''allow us to have our own privacy I say. A bad thing has happened. But why you are fellows surrounding us like this? Leave us to live in peace.'' However, one reporter wanted to know his name but got only abuses in reply.
