Ranjit Sagar dam delegation meets CM

Chandigarh, Aug 3 (UNI) A 20-member delegation of the Joint Action Committee of Ranjit Sagar Dam led by Sujanpur MLA Dinesh Singh called on Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and apprised them of their demands, which included release of pensionery benefits on the basis of incentive allowance and deployment of the surplus staff in other departments and Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).

The Chief Minister constituted a committee comprising Irrigation Minister, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Finance, Principal Secretary Irrigation and Power under the chairmanship of Finance Minister to look into demands of the employees.

Mr Badal also asked the Principal Secretary Irrigation to take up the matter with authorities of BBMB for the deployment of surplus staff of Ranjit Sagar Dam to its various projects, as Punjab had an agreement with BBMB for surplus staff adjustment.

The Chief Minister assured the delegation that all of their genuine demands would be thoroughly examined by the committee constituted by him before taking a final decision.

Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Principal Secretary to Chief Minister D S Guru, Principal Secretary Finance D S Kalha, Principal Secretary Irrigation and Power Suresh Kumar, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sukhvir Singh Sandhu, Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister K G S Cheema.

14 quintals poppy husk seized, two arrested

Kapurthala, Aug 3 (UNI) The Bholath police today arrested two persons and recovered 14 quintal poppy husk from their possession. Talking to mediapersons here SSP Rakesh Aggarwal said that a police party intercepted a truck and on search of the vehicle recovered 39 bags of poppy husk. He said the alleged accused during their preliminary interrogatioon confessed that they had bought the poppy husk from Gwalior, at Rs 10,500 per quintal and were to sell in.....

BJP leader gets clean chit in suicide case

Kapurthala, Aug 3 (UNI) The district police has given clean chit to BJP district president Hira Lal Dhir from his alleged involvement in abetting a local resident to commit suicide. The police has taken this step following an inquiry conducted by city DSP Sukhdev Singh Chhina on the role of Dhir in the suicide of Sukhdev Kumar, police officials here today said. Police had registered a case under section 306 IPC against Dhir and a contractor.....

Sham Sunder elected BJP district president

Kapurthala, Aug 3 (UNI) Municipal Councillor Sham Sunder Aggarwal was today elected president of district unit of BJP following intervention by the BJP State unit. Eight candidates had filed their nominations for the post but before the election was held all the contestants authorised the state unit to choose the president. The state unit named Sham Sunder Aggarwal after hectic consultations with other members of the district unit. UNI.....
