Noted critic, writer Sarojani Vaidya passes away

Pune, Aug 3 (UNI) Noted critic and writer of Marathi literature Sarojani Vaidya passed away after a brief illness at the local hospital here today.

She was 74 and is survived by her husband and a son Niranjan.

She was the wife of Shankar Vaidya who is also a renowned Marathi poet and writer. Mrs Vaidya was the first Director of the Marathi Bhasha Vikas Parishad.

Noted writers and poets of Marathi literature like G N Joglekar, D N Miraajdar and N M Joshi condoled her death and said the field of Marathi literature has lost one of its pillars and is poorer by her death.

She was cremated at the Vaikunth crematorium later this evening.

Her funeral was largely attended by noted writers, critics and poets who paid rich tribute to the departed soul.

Coming Gur season's trading 'muhurat' marked in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Aug 3 (UNI) The coming gur season's gur trading 'muharat' was held at the premises of Kolhapur Zilla market committee here today. On the muharat day, gur trading rates ranged between Rs 1,700 to Rs 2,525 per quintal, market committee sources said. The opening muhurat of Gur trading was performed by market committee Secretary Jadhav. Also present on the occasion were traders, farmers and others. Metro or Mono Rail system in major punjab cities soon: Sukhbir Badal

Jalandhar, Aug 3 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) acting president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said that Metro or Mono Rail system would be introduced in the major cities of Punjab soon. Addressing the media persons here this evening, Mr Badal said that RITES, a Government of India enterprise for major projects, had been entrusted the task of conducting survey in major cities for running Metro or Mono Rail system for the convinience of the public......
