Naveen rules out enhancement of retirement age for employees

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today ruled out any enhancement of retirement age of the government employees from 58 years to 60 years.

Mr.Patnaik made it clear that the proposal was not under consideration of the government but hinted that other demands of the employees would be taken up for consideration in course of time.

The Chief Minister's statement came in the wake of a massive demonstration organised by the Karmachari Sangram Samittee and the employees of the state secretariat today demanded retirement age at 60 years and merger of 50 per cent DA with the basic salary from April 2004 instead of April 2006.

However, bowing to the employees'demand, Mr Patnaik yesterday announced to constitute a committee to set right the anomalies created following the fifth Pay Commission report.He also agreed to pay central gratuity and announced Rs 20 crore for the construction of quarters for the employees working at the district level.

Centre asks Bihar govt to intensify relief in flood-hit areas

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh today directed the Bihar Government to intensify relief measures in the flood-affected areas to protect the lives and properties of people. Dr Singh, who will visit the flood-hit areas tomorrow to take stock of the ongoing relief measures, said that readymade food, polythenes for shelter, health care, medicine and boats were provided on a large-scale. He said the Centre had already provided Rs 53 crore.....

Revival of south west monsoon over central India

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) The current meteorological conditions suggest a revival in monsoon activity over central and adjoining peninsular India, the Met department said today. A low pressure area is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal tomorrow along with a southward shift in monsoon trough. The low-pressure area is likely to become more marked and move slowly in a west-northwesterly direction. Enhanced rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rains are likely.....

Kiran Bedi rejoins office

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) Super cop Kiran Bedi today resumed duty following a ''fruitful meeting'' with Home Minister Shivraj Patil yesterday. ''I am on duty. I love to work and hate wasting even a single moment,'' said a beaming Ms Bedi, who had gone to Home Ministry for some meeting. Ms Bedi had earlier applied for three months 'leave' to protest against her being sidelined for the post of Delhi Police Commissioner. Though refusing to divulge details.....
