Manipur journalists on stir for third day

Imphal, Aug 3 (UNI) The Manipur media continued their sit-in-protest for the third consecutive day today at Keishampat here demanding non-interference in their activities.

On July 31, a bomb was placed at the office of a local newspaper at Imphal by suspected militants. The journalists under the aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists Union are protesting the incident.

Ministers, MLAs, representatives of various organisations have also joined the stir.

The journalists were not able to work properly after a militant group threatened them of dire consequences if their press handout was not published. Yet another group threatened to attack journalists if that press release was published.

Air India flight makes emergency landing

Karipur, Kerala, Aug 3 (UNI) An Air India flight from Damam in Saudi Arabia, with 215 passengers on board, made an emergency landing at the International airport here after one of its engines developed a technical snag mid-air. Air Traffic Control (ATC) Joint General Manager and officiating Air Port Director V S P Chinson said the flight AI 918, which developed pressurising problems, however, landed safely at 1352 hrs. BJP announces stir for 'Liberation Day' observance

Hyderabad, Aug 3 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party in Andhra Pradesh will hold dharnas in the Telangana region, demanding that the state government celebrate the 'Hyderabad Liberation Day' on September 17, taking a cue from Maharashtra and Karnataka governments. The Congress government should realise that the day on which Hyderabad was liberated and merged with the Indian union was as important as August 15, and come forward to hold celebrations, senior BJP leader and former Union.....
