LIGHT signs MoU with IOM on trafficking

Hyderabad, Aug 3 (UNI) Lanco Institute of General Humanitarian Trust (LIGHT), a registered humanitarian and development trust formed by LANCO, today signed an MoU with International Organisation for Migration (IOM), for the provision of assistance to survivors of trafficking and other vulnerable people below poverty line.

LIGHT Chairman L Rajagopal and IOM Director General Brunson McKinley had signed the MoU.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rajagopal said the agreement marks the beginning of a series of initiatives in the area of rehabilitation and empowerment of Victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking (VOCSET) and other vulnerable groups like Mathammas, Joginis, Dalits through provision for their employment.

The activities will start in Vijayawada as the initial partnership period with effect from today, till December 31, 2008.

One killed and five injured in police firing

Madhubani, Bihar, Aug 3 (UNI) One person was killed and five were injured when police opened fire to quell a violent mob at Chakdah village in the district today. Police resorted to firing when lathis failed to disperse rival groups, who clashed over the cutting of an embankment to release huge accumulated rain water in the village. When police arrived at the spot the mob turned their wrath on them and pelted stones and others missiles.....

Naveen rules out enhancement of retirement age for employees

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today ruled out any enhancement of retirement age of the government employees from 58 years to 60 years. Mr.Patnaik made it clear that the proposal was not under consideration of the government but hinted that other demands of the employees would be taken up for consideration in course of time.
