Kuki militants agrees for cease fire with government

Shillong, Aug 3 (UNI) Thirteen Kuki militants in Manipur have decided to sign a cease-fire agreement with the state government, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said today.

'' Thirteen Kuki militant outfits under the banner of the Kuki National Army and United People's Front have conveyed their willingness to go on a cease-fire with the government,'' Mr Singh told reporters here.

The Chief Minister said the Cabinet, which met yesterday at Imphal has decided to take up the matter with the Home Ministry to prepare the cease-fire ground rules.

Mr Singh also appealed to the valley based militant groups in his state to shun the path of violence and discuss their problem across the table.

Deputy Speaker not a militant but an accused: Singh

Shillong, Aug 3 (UNI) Newly elected Deputy Speaker of Manipur Assembly Th Shyamkumar is ''not a militant'' but a politician, said Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh here today. ''He was just an accused, as he was arrested together with the other two UNLF militants,'' Mr Singh told reporters. WBPCC urges Sonia for Priyadarshan Dasmunshi as State President

New Delhi, August 3 (UNI) A three-member Congress delegation from the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) led by former Calcutta Mayor Subroto Mukherjee today called on the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and requested her to appoint the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyadarshan Dasmunshi as the PCC President. It would place the party in a proper footing against the Left Front in the coming Panchayat election, he told Ms Gandhi. Later, talking to newsmen, Mr Mukherjee.....

Renault to attend F1 spy appeal hearing

BUDAPEST, Aug 3 (Reuters) Formula One champions Renault will attend an appeal court hearing into a spying controversy between McLaren and Ferrari, team head Flavio Briatore said today. The Italian told a news conference at the Hungarian Grand Prix circuit that the French team would take part because the affair was damaging the sport's image and the outcome was important to everybody.
