K'taka to achieve 4.5 per cent growth in Agriculture during XI plan

Bangalore, Aug 3 (UNI) At the end of a review meeting of Agriculture sector in Karnataka by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today resolved to achieve 4.5 per cent growth during Eleventh plan period.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar said that it was resolved to achieve additional production of 10 lakh tonnes of rice, four lakh tonnes of pulses, five lakh tonnes of maize and nine lakh tonnes of oilseeds in the State under the National Food Security Mission.

Among several resolutions for rejuvenating the agrarian sector it was resolved to harness the potential of horticulture produce for export of grapes, pomegranate, and lime, accord highest priority to seed production, to notify the recent Amendment to APMC Act, strengthen agriculture extension, expedite the implementation of Vaidyanathan Committee report regarding the rural credit and endeavour to achieve additional milk production of 10 lakh tonnes.

Senior excise official accused of sexual exploitation

Fake currency racket busted, 4 arrested

Lucknow, Aug 3 (UNI) Police has busted a fake currency racket with the arrest of four persons and seizure of a large quantity of illegal tender in the naxal-infested Sonebhadra district. Kerala HC disposes writ petition on schooling of HIV children
