Kiran Bedi resumes work after week-long 'protest'

New Delhi, Aug 3: Senior IPS officer Kiran Bedi today resumed duty after several days of 'protest leave' that followed after she was superseded by her junior Y S Dadwal for the post of Delhi Police Commissioner last week.

A cheerful Ms Bedi joined duty as Director General Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) at her CGO Complex office in the morning, said an official source.

The resumption of duty, after a hiatus of nearly a week, follows her nearly half-an-hour meeting with Home Minister Shivraj Patil yesterday which she had described as ''useful and frank''.

Soon after being sidelined for the top cop slot, when the announcement came on July 25 last, Ms Bedi had sought a 3-month 'leave'.

Ms Bedi, whose name was among the two sent for Delhi Police's top job, while expressing disgust and dismay over being superseded by Mr Y S Dadwal despite being two years senior to him, had called the move unfair and demoralising to the force.

The meeting whcih lasted about half an hour was described as ''useful and frank'' by Ms Bedi.
