India, Pak exchange list of 20 export products

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) Even as Pakistan sought more market access in India for its products, the two countries have agreed to exchange a list of 20 products of export interest to both sides by August-end and finalise procedures for their trade facilitation.

The decision, taken by the third meeting of India-Pakistan Joint Study Group (JSG) at Commerce Secretary - level, was announced here this evening.

The joint statement said though this exchange of lists would be a continuous process, the two nations would make efforts to complete the exercise of listing and placing the products' lists on their respective websites by the end of this year.

Pakistan Commerce Secretary Syed Asaf Ali Shah, while agreeing with the need to facilitate trade, urged India to consider creating special provision for giving more market access to Pakistan in the spirit of the Article XXIV of general agreement on trade and tariff(GATT), the world trade agreement which led to the birth of World Trade Organisation.

India's Commerce Secretary G K Pillai, without making any commitment, said they have '' noted the (Pakistan) request.

India again declined to make any commitment when Pakistan proposed to set up a sub group to address the issue of market access arising out of subsidies extended to the agriculture sector in India and said they have noted Pakistan's proposal.
