HC asks govt to submit status report on Ambedkar stadium

Lucknow, Aug 3 (UNI) The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has deferred the hearing in the Ambedkar Sports Stadium case till August 27 and sought a report from the state government on its current status within three weeks.

A bench comprising Justice Pradeep Kant and Justice Devi Prasad Singh had asked principal secretary, sports, Sudhir Kumar about the upkeep of stadium's swimming poll and cricket ground, but he could give no specific reply.

The bench said the principal secretary was not aware of the stadium's current status and the government also could clarify its stand of displacing sportsmen from the stadium.

Over media's interference in the entire issue, the court said media is behaving the way it should in any matter of public concern and it is the duty of the fourth estate to apprise public of any issue of their concern.

Earlier, the court had stayed the government's order of demolition of the stadium and evacuating sportsmen on a petition filed by Om Prakash Yadav and seven others.
