Itanagar, Aug 3 (UNI) The flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh improved marginally with the major rivers and their tributaries in Lower Dibang Valley district receding with the improvement in weather condition.
However, power supply and surface communication were severely affected by the flood.
Breach of embankment by surging Aba river badly damaged the 450 kw Simari hydel pipelines forcing the people of the headquarters, Roing, to live in darkness, according to official sources.
Moreover, the 750 kw Deopani hydel project separated in two phases, remained non-functional due to recurring flood at the intake point Eze River.
The embankment at the Abo river bank partially breached at two points, sources said, adding labourers have been pressed in for the restoration work of Sisir hydel pipelines with available materials till any alternative options were found.
Massive erosion on the right bank of the Deopani river was causing a great threat to the Roing township. Most of the circles and the villages still remained cut off from the headquarters.
Many government officials were stranded at Roing due to disruption in road communication and the people were also facing tough time due to sudden rise in prices of essential commodities following inadequate supply.
Large areas of agricultural land and crops were either inundated or destroyed by flood water. Moreover, breach of 100 metre Public Works Department embankment at Eduli road had threatened existence of Iduli, Rokmo and peripheral villages, while the concerned officials were working on war footing to avoid the further damage.
Meanwhile, a team comprising MLA Laeta Umbrey, Deputy Commissioner P Hosai visited the flood and erosion affected areas to take a stock of damages and suggested some conventional measures and utilizing the most available resources to check further damages.
MLA Roding Pertin said that Dambuk still remained marooned and Bomjir, Anpum, Bijari and Paglam areas remained cut off from Dambuk.
He said the overall flood situation in the sub-division remained grim.
Anini, the headquarters of Dibang Valley district, continued to remain cut off as the bailey bridge over the Deopani river was yet to be restored. Continued downpour had made restoration work by the GREF personnel difficult, sources added.
