Dutt looks tension-free after spending night in jail in Pune

Pune, Aug 3 (UNI) Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt appears to have come to terms with himself as there was no trace of stress or tension nor was pressure visible on his face after spending a night in the Yerawada Central Jail here.

The actor was brought here late last night from Arthur Road jail in Mumbai to serve his sentence. It was in Yerawada jail that the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi too served a six year sentence during the British regime for writing articles against their rule in his 'Young India' magazine.

Human rights activist Asim Sarode, who has been conducting a programme for jail inmates to spread Gandhian principles since 2002, had the opportunity to meet Dutt this morning for about 20 minutes.

Mr Asim told UNI that Mr Dutt was looking fresh and there were no sign of tension. They discussed Gandhian principles and the actor espoused great interest in promoting Gandhian philosophy.

According to jail authorities, every convict has to get up at 0500 hrs every morning. It will take some time for the Bollywood star to get accustomed to the daily routine of the prison, he said.

Jail sources said Dutt, who has been put up in a special cell 3 with bill number 15170, next to stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi, was greeted by the latter early this morning.

Dutt will be allowed to meet his family members after a gap of 15 days. He will be treated as any other convict and will receive a daily wage of Rs 12.75 paise per day, the sources added.

More than a thousand fans gathered at the Yerawada jail last night to catch a glimpse of their popular hero, nicknamed 'Munnabhai' after his role in the film 'Munnabhai MBBS' and its sequel 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'. The fans raised slogans like ''Sanjay Dutt Zindabad'', ''Munnabhai Zindabad''.
