Downpours to lash MP

Bhopal, Aug 3 (UNI) After a roughly fortnight-long break, heavy rain is likely over entire Madhya Pradesh over the next few days courtesy a system forming in the Bay of Bengal.

''Upper air cyclonic circulation is forming on the Orissa coast and will advance towards this state, in the form of a low-pressure area,'' Regional Meteorological Centre Director D P Dubey said here today.

The state capital witnessed late afternoon downpours. Overnight precipitation figures were Tendukheda 7 cm; Harda, Khajuraho 6 cm each; Maihar, Raisen, Ratlam, Morena and Sehore 3 cm each.

Businessman nabbed for trying to bribe BJP MP

Durg, Chhattisgarh, Aug 3 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Kolkata-resident businessman who reached the residence of a BJP MP and allegedly tried to bribe him, police said. The team, led by Superintendent of Police Puroshottam Gautam, nabbed Pawan Lakotia with Rs 5 lakh from the residence of BJP MP Tarachand Sahu this evening. Mr Sahu had complained to ACB that Lakotia, who deals in steel scrap, met him and offered to pay Rs 5.....

Jaggi murder: HC grants bail to ex-cops

Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Aug 3 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh High Court today granted bail to three sacked police officers who were found guilty, by a special court, of misleading the judiciary in the case relating to the murder of NCP state Treasurer Ramavtar Jaggi who was gunned down at Raipur on June 4, 2003. Justice Sunil Sinha accepted the pleas of the then City Superintendent of Police (Raipur) Amreek Singh Gill, the then Town Inspector (Maudhapara) V K.....

Kuki militants agrees for cease fire with government

Shillong, Aug 3 (UNI) Thirteen Kuki militants in Manipur have decided to sign a cease-fire agreement with the state government, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said today. '' Thirteen Kuki militant outfits under the banner of the Kuki National Army and United People's Front have conveyed their willingness to go on a cease-fire with the government,'' Mr Singh told reporters here. The Chief Minister said the Cabinet, which met yesterday at Imphal has decided.....
