Coimbatore blasts case: 84 persons seek bail

Coimbatore, Aug 3 (UNI) All the 84 persons, whom the Special Court hearing the Coimbatore blasts case had cleared of criminal conspiracy charges, have filed bail applications as per the court order.

Special Court Judge K Uthirapathy reserved orders on the bail petitions for August six, when the quantum of sentence for the convicted would be pronounced.

The Court had acquitted Kerala-based People's Democratic Party Chairman Abdul Nasser Maudhany and seven others, while convicting Al-Umma President S A Basha and 152 others on August one.

Of the 153 convicted, 73 were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and other main charges, while the rest were convicted only on minor charges. The Court had asked those convicted on minor charges and those whose conviction was deferred to file their bail petitions.

HC issues notice to Centre on Presidential election

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today issued notice to the Centre on a revision petition filed by an advocate challenging the metropolitan magistrate's order of disposing the complaint against UPA president Sonia Gandhi for holding a dinner at Ashoka Hotel prior to the Presidential election. Earlier, the petitioner had filed a complaint in which he wanted action against Ms Gandhi for influencing the voters by organising the dinner. Justice Ravinder Bhatt issued.....

HC directs police to quash 2nd FIR in Jessica case

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) Delhi High Court today directed the police to approach the lower court for quashing the second FIR registered soon it had ordered an inquiry when all the nine accused in the Jessica Lal murder case were acquitted by the sessions court . Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium, today contended before the court that the second FIR, to probe the nexus of the police officers and the investigating team with the accused,.....

Malhotra snubs CBI summon for questioning

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) Cocking a snook for the second consecutive day, land scam accused Ashok Malhotra today failed to turn up at the CBI office for an interrogation in connection with the over 5,000 plot land allotment scandal said to involve several political big wigs.
