Businessman nabbed for trying to bribe BJP MP

Durg, Chhattisgarh, Aug 3 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Kolkata-resident businessman who reached the residence of a BJP MP and allegedly tried to bribe him, police said.

The team, led by Superintendent of Police Puroshottam Gautam, nabbed Pawan Lakotia with Rs 5 lakh from the residence of BJP MP Tarachand Sahu this evening.

Mr Sahu had complained to ACB that Lakotia, who deals in steel scrap, met him and offered to pay Rs 5 lakh every month. He was apprehended when he reached Mr Sahu's house to give the first instalment.

According to the MP, the businessman approached him following his complaint to the authorities about some irregularities in the steel business. He alleged that Lakotia offered the bribe so that he could carry on his business smoothly.

Deputy Speaker not a militant but an accused: Singh

Shillong, Aug 3 (UNI) Newly elected Deputy Speaker of Manipur Assembly Th Shyamkumar is ''not a militant'' but a politician, said Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh here today. ''He was just an accused, as he was arrested together with the other two UNLF militants,'' Mr Singh told reporters.
