Bhopal's Bharat Bhavan releases calendar of programmes

Bhopal, Aug 3 (UNI) Culture buffs in this City of Lakes are in for a veritable treat as multi-art centre Bharat Bhavan Board of Trustees Secretary Rameshwar Mishra Pankaj today released a calendar for six months' programmes.

''The Bhavan will celebrate its anniversary in February-March 2008. The programmes will be conducted in our four wings Roopankar (art), Anhad (music), Wagarth (literature) and Rangmandal (theatre),'' he told reporters.

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been invited to recite his father Harivanshrai Bachchan's immortal poetry. Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and Shubha Mudgal will also showcase their talents. A SAARC poetry convention is on schedule in February 2008.

Roopankar would host an exhibition of -- besides lectures and seminars on -- the works of Padmashri Raghunath Krishna Phadke, Devkrishna Jatashankar Joshi, Rudranhji, Avdharan Singh Bavni, Master Madanlal Sharma, S N Subbakrishna and Nagesh Yavalkar.

A B V Karanth Samaroh will witness leading theatre directors' works being staged from September 1 to 3 and a multi-lingual drama fest is on the cards for January 2008.

FCI employee falls from Delhi Secretariat building, recuperating

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) A 45-year-old government employee today fell from the Delhi Secretariat building at ITO this afternoon while waiting for an appointment with the Chief Secretary. Gajraj, who worked with the Food Corporation of India, had come to meet the Chief Secretary and was trying to sit on the boundary wall of the 5th floor when he lost balance and fell from the multi-storeyed building, said the police. APHRC directs CID to register cases against police

Hyderabad, Aug 3 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Human Rights Commission (APHRC) Chairman Justice B Subhashan Reddy today directed the CBCID to register cases against the guilty police personnel, who opened fire at Mudigonda in Khammam district, claiming seven lives. Taking suo motu action based on media reports of the incident, he also directed the CID to take action against the police as under the criminal procedure code. One killed, five injured in police firing

Madhubani, Bihar, Aug 3 (UNI) One person was killed and five were injured when police opened fire to quell a violent mob at Chakdah village in the district today. Police resorted to firing when a lathi-charge failed to disperse rival groups, who clashed over the cutting of an embankment to release huge accumulated rain water in the village. When police arrived at the spot, the mob turned their wrath on them and pelted stones and others.....
