Bhatkal in Karnataka receives record rainfall

Bangalore, Aug 3 (UNI) Heavy rains lashed over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka disrupting normal life sine last night.

Reports said heavy rainfall was being experienced in the district of Uttara Kannada (UK), Udupi, Kodagu, Chikmagalur, Shimoga and Dakshina Kannada districts.

Bhatkal in UK received a record 39 cms of rain during the 24 hours ending 0830 hrs today. The other stations that got very heavy rainfall included Shirali 16, Kumta 15, Honavar 13, Kollur, Ankola 11 each, Karwar, Hosanagar, Agumbe 10 each.

However, no loss of life or major damages to property was reported.

IMD local office warned that heavy to very heavy rain was likely at a few places over Coastal Karnataka during next 48 hours. Heavy rain would also occur at isolated places over ghat areas of South Interior Karnataka during the same period.

The farmers weather bulletin said moderate to rather heavy rain was likely to occur at most places over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Kodagu, Hassan districts.

Service of Gorakhpur-Yesvantpur-Gorakhpur extended for 1 month

Bangalore, Aug 3 (UNI) South Western Railway (SWR) today announced extension by one month the services of Gorakhpur- Yesvantpur-Gorakhpur weekly special. According to a SWR release here, the service from Gorakhpur would start from August six on Mondays to arrive on Wednesdays. On return direction the Yeswantpur-Gorakhpur would leave here on Thursdays to reach Gorakhpur on Saturdays. UNI.....

Manmohan Singh leaves for Delhi after a day's visit to Bangalore

Bangalore, Aug 3 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was on a day's visit to the city to review the agricultural and financial scenario of Karnataka left for New Delhi this evening. He was seen off by Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Rahman Khan and Union Minister of State for highways K H Muniyappa. CII to take up industrialisation of North Kerala

Kochi, Aug 3 (UNI) The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) today said it will launch initiatives to promote the industrialisation of north Kerala, which is lagging behind the central and southern parts of the state in development. Addressing a press conference here, CII, Southern Region, Chairman Pradipta K Mohapatra and Kerala Council Chairman Umang Patodia said a cluster development approach could be adopted to promote industries such as handlooms and food processing in the northern districts......
