Air India flight makes emergency landing

Karipur, Kerala, Aug 3 (UNI) An Air India flight from Damam in Saudi Arabia, with 215 passengers on board, made an emergency landing at the International airport here after one of its engines developed a technical snag mid-air.

Air Traffic Control (ATC) Joint General Manager and officiating Air Port Director V S P Chinson said the flight AI 918, which developed pressurising problems, however, landed safely at 1352 hrs.

He said the pilot first alerted the Mangalore ATC about the snag in the aircraft, which was scheduled to land here at 0705 hrs.

Subsequently, a red alert was sounded and all arrangements were made, enabling the flight to land safely, Mr Chinson said.

Parts of Muzaffarpur town flooded following breach in embankment

Muzaffarpur, Aug 3 (UNI) Large parts of this north Bihar town were inundated after a sudden breach in the embankment of the Burhi Gandak river this morning, rendering more than 200,000 people homeless. District Magistrate Prahlad Thakur told UNI that as soon as water started gushing into the township, inundating several low lying areas, a number of country-made boats were pressed into service to rescue the marooned people. Simultaneous efforts were also being made to plug.....

Flood situation improves in Lower Dibang Valley

Itanagar, Aug 3 (UNI) The flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh improved marginally with the major rivers and their tributaries in Lower Dibang Valley district receding with the improvement in weather condition. However, power supply and surface communication were severely affected by the flood. Breach of embankment by surging Aba river badly damaged the 450 kw Simari hydel pipelines forcing the people of the headquarters, Roing, to live in darkness, according to official sources......
