AAI plans aerobridge at Vadodara airport

Vadodara, Aug 3 (UNI) The Airport Authority of India (AAI) will be spending nearly Rs 120 crore to build an aerobridge at the airport, near Harni here, that will carry passengers straight from the gate to inside the plane.

Such aerobridges would come up in 18 airports in the country, of which work in four airports would be taken up on a priority basis.

Vadodara is the first of the four airports that would have aerobridges built in a year's time.

After Vodadara, Lucknow, Guwahati and Raipur airports are others on the priority list, AAI director Amit Vajpayee told UNI today.

The airport here of late has seen a growth of 8 per cent in persons travelling by flights over the years and the new facility would bring much needed relief, say airport officials.

An air-conditioned passenger lounge was opened at the airport premises, a few months back.

Indian, Jet Airways, Deccan Airways and Spice Jet have their ticketing counters at Vadodara and other private airlines could join soon. Kingfisher is set to begin its operations by the end of the month.
