18 IAS officers transferred

Gandhinagar, Aug 2 (UNI) The Gujarat Government today announced the transfers of 18 IAS officers.

Ahmedabad Collector D Tara has been transferred as Ahmedabad deputy municipal commissioner to replace D H Bramhabhatt who will take over as Valsad collector. D K Rawal will be the new collector of Surat.

Bhuj collector Dhananjay Dwivedi has been transferred as collector of Ahmedabad while R R Varsani will take over as collector of Bhuj.

Among the other important transfers, Porbandar collector N H Chhibbar will take over as state co-ordinator of national village employment scheme at village development commissioner office, Gandhinagar. M B Parmar, director, Schedule Caste Welfare Department Gandhinagar, has been transferred as collector of Porbandar.

Collector of Amreli Mohammed Shahid has been transferred as director, Schedule Caste Welfare Department Gandhinagar, Registrar of co-operative societies, Gandhinagar J D Bhad has been transferred as joint secretary, grain, civil supply and consumer redressal department, Gandhinagar.

Rice presses Egypt to free opposition leader Nour

Shannon, Ireland, Aug 3: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urged Egypt's government to free jailed opposition politician Ayman Nour and said she had raised his case with President Hosni Mubarak this week. Speaking to reporters en route to Washington after a four-day trip to the Middle East that included Egypt, Rice said she was disappointed by an Egyptian court's decision on Tuesday not to free Nour on medical grounds. Canada cancer vaccination launched in controversy

TTAWA, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Canada's most populous province will begin vaccinating Grade 8 girls against cervical cancer this fall, the Ontario government said today, but some medical experts say the campaign is premature and could lead to more unsafe sex. Ontario will offer the vaccine against human papilloma virus (HPV), a cause of cervical cancer, on a voluntary basis to 84,000 school girls aged 13 and 14.
