K'taka to bring new law to control cyber crime

Bangalore, July 31: Karnataka Home Minister M P Prakash today said that the State government was planning to bring a new law to control the cyber crime in the State.

Replying to a query raised by Mr V Somanna of Congress in the Legislative Assembly, the Home Minister said that the government had noticed the rise in the rate cyber crime and had planned to introduce a new law to control it, besides giving importance for training of more personnel.

He said that police had registered 40 cases of cyber crime related offences from January 2006 till now.

29 cases were related to hacking, six connected to publishing obscene information electonic form and five related to tampering with computer source docuement, he said.

The government had set one police unit at the COD office in the city to investigate cyber crime.
