UN nuclear monitors arrive in North Korea

Shanghai, July 28: United Nations monitors arrived in Pyongyang today to keep watch over the nuclear complex at the heart of a disarmament deal, China's official Xinhua news agency said.

The six experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency were to take the place of some colleagues already at North Korea's Yongbyon complex, which can make plutonium that can be used in weapons.

Their arrival was another step in a February disarmament pact that offered North Korea heavy fuel oil in return for freezing and ultimately disabling Yongbyon.

Xinhua quoted group leader Ryszard Zarucki as saying the new group of monitors would stay in North Korea for two weeks.

Giant pandas expanding its habitat!

Shanghai, July 28: Conservation efforts appear to be helping China's endangered giant panda expand its habitat in parts of western China, the official Xinhua news agency reported today.
