Nationwide protest between Aug 26 and Oct 15: VHP

Bijapur (Karnataka), July 27: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad today said it will launch a nationwide protest between August 26 and October 15 under the Sri Rameswaram Ramsetu protection movement opposing the move to destroy the 'ramsetu' between India and Sri lanka.

Talking to newsmen here Dr Praveen Togadia, International Secretary Vishwa Hindu Parishad said the Ramsetu should be protected by enlisting it in historical monument. There was a religious history on Ramsetu among hindus he said and added that Vishwa Hindu Parishad would urge all political parties to support this movement.

At the same he also said that movement would distance itself from political parties.

Criticising government attitude of destroying Ramestu Dr Togadia said it was possible for government to protect it by using underground canal to move ship transportation facility. In 1956 the then British government which was ruling india also rejected the idea of destroying Ramsetu he explained.

Dharm Sansad attended by 5000 saints has also decided to oppose government decision of destroying Ramsetu he said and added that on August 26 Rameswaram Chalo programme would be launched. On August 28 Ramsetu Raksha Bandhan would be celebrated. From November 20 Ratha yatra programme launched to create awareness. On the Same day a monthlong Ramsetu raksha Maha Yajna would also commenced, he explained . If government continued its decision Delhi Chalo programme would be launched, he added.

Clerics condemn Gorakhpur serial blasts
