Nagaland intensifies ban on import of poultry

Kohima, Jul 27: Following outbreak of bird flu in neighbouring Manipur, Nagaland has decided to intensify their ban on import of poultry, pigs and their by-products through all check posts of the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, bordering Manipur and Myanmar.

In a notification, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Joint Director Dr L S Moses today said the Department would carry out fogging of all vehicles coming to Nagaland from Manipur with disinfectant at Khuzama Check Gate, the entry point in Nagaland from Manipur and deploy additional manpower to assist the staff of the Department at Khuzama Check Gate.

The Department also decided to conduct additional checking at police check gate at Phesema for effective ban on import of poultry and pigs.

The department have however said that there is no need to panic as of now since it was conducting regular surveillance besides monitoring activists within the state.
