AP House adjourned over police lathicharge

Hyderabad, July 27: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned for a brief period this morning as the Left parties and the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) stalled the proceedings over the alleged 'brutal' police lathicharge on CPI and CPI (M) activists at various places in the state yesterday.

Soon as the House assembled for the day, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed the adjournment motions given notices by the TRS, BJP and Janata Party on various issues.

Immediately, the Opposition party members rushed to the well of the House demanding setting aside regular business and taking up discussion on the alleged ''indiscriminate'' police lathicharge on the activists demanding house sites for the poor.

The Speaker made repeated pleas to the members to resume their seats. Since there were no signs of restoration of normalcy, Mr Reddy adjourned the House for over 15 minutes.

Earlier, the Speaker disallowed the adjournment motions given notices of by the TRS on Munneru Kapu Hostel, the BJP on problems faced by farmers and handloom weavers and the Janata Party on flood flow canal in Metpally Constituency.

Rs 250 cr proj to help CAs brush up on soft skills

Kochi, May 23: Faced with increasing competition from MBAs, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is embarking on a Rs 250 crore initiative to impart soft skills and management training to its members. Addressing a press conference here, ICAI president Sunil Talati said the project envisaged establishment of 17 'centres of excellence' over the next eight years in different parts of the country to impart training in ''soft skills'' to its members......
