Infosys launches Project Genesis in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Jul 23: Infosys BPO, the business process subsidiary of the Infosys Technologies, today launched ''Project Genesis'' in Orissa to create a strong foundation for the emerging knowledge economy in the country.

The first phase of the project known as ''Train the Trainer'' was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Info city here to provide training on Global skills enhancement to nearly 300 lecturers drawn from 70 colleges and six universities.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Patnaik hoped that the project would help in making the general graduates of the state to acquire necessary skill.

He said the lecturers on completion of their training would train the students in their colleges which would help the students in getting suitable jobs in different BPO companies in the state and elsewhere.

The Chief Minister said there has been an unprecedented spurt in the industrial activity in Orissa in the last few years adding that the graduates, both engineering and other professional should take benefit of this development.

Mr Patnaik said there would be a database of successful graduates who in turn would be absorbed in BPO industries through job mela adding that this would be a win win situation for the graduating students and the BPO industry.

He said the government has decided to initiate such a programme through a service provider and urged the Infosys to start a BPO centre in Orissa.

Infosys BPO Chairman Mohan Das Pai said the response on project Genesis was very positive in Karnataka, Maharastra and Rajhsthan where already 2500 lecturers had been trained to impart training to nearly 20,000 students.

He urged the government to undertake State Skills Development programme under the Public Private Partnership(PPP)and initiate various programmes with the industries to create job opportunities for the graduates in the state.

Orissa Information Technology Minister S N Patra and Higher Education Minister Samir Dey also graced the occasion.
