Afghan Taliban threaten to kill German hostages

Kabul, July 21: Afghanistan's Taliban movement threatened to kill two German hostages if its demand were not met by 1300 hrs today, a spokesman for the militant group said.

The Taliban is demanding release of all its members in Afghan prisons and the withdrawal of German troops from Afghanistan.

''The Taliban leadership council has set 12:00 (local time) as deadline for the two German hostages. And if the deadline is not met, we will kill them,'' said spokesman Qari Mohammad Yousuf.

More than 50 Taliban killed in Afghan south: US

Kabul, July 26: US-led troops killed more than 50 insurgents in a battle in Afghanistan's southern province of Helmand, the US military said today. There were no casualties among coalition troops in the 12-hour battle with Taliban militants which finished early today, it said in a statement. No civilian injuries were reported. The Taliban could not be reached for comment and because of the remoteness of the region there was no independent.....

Floods kill 15 in Bangla, thousands stranded

Dhaka, July 22: At least 15 people have been killed in floods in Bangladesh triggered by heavy monsoon rains over the past three days and nearly half a million stranded in their homes, officials said today. Meteorologists said over 100 of rain fell in northern areas over the past 24 hours and several rivers had burst their banks. More than 770 people have died as a result of this year's monsoon season across India,.....
