Suicide attack wounds 3 UK troops, 2 Afghans

Kandahar, Afghanistan, July 20: A suicide car bomb attack on British troops in the southern Afghan province of Helmand today wounded three soldiers and two Afghan civilians, the provincial police chief said.

Hussain Andiwal told the sources the attack took place in the Sangin district of Helmand where British troops have been engaged in heavy fighting with Taliban insurgents for more than a year.

Afghanistan has seen a sharp rise in the number of suicide and roadside bombings in the last 18 months, which Western military officials say is due to the Taliban's inability to launch conventional attacks without sustaining heavy casualties.

Floods kill 15 in Bangla, thousands stranded

Dhaka, July 22: At least 15 people have been killed in floods in Bangladesh triggered by heavy monsoon rains over the past three days and nearly half a million stranded in their homes, officials said today. Meteorologists said over 100 of rain fell in northern areas over the past 24 hours and several rivers had burst their banks.
