Tripura: BSF tightened along borders

Agartala, July 19: The Border Security Forces (BSF) tightened security along borders with Bangladesh following fresh political trouble in the neighbouring country.

State Home department officials here today said keeping previous experience in mind all the bordering outposts maintained by the BSF as well as the police stations were put on high alert to prevent any intrusion from Bangladesh.

According to the BSF, intelligence network has been strengthened in bordering locations while police and other paramilitary forces were asked to maintain a close vigil over the movements of outsiders in the state especially in the bordering areas.

''Tripura had earlier experienced such illegal migration from across the border when there was internal security disturbance has come up in Bangladesh. This is just a precautionary measure,'' said a senior security official.

He further added the Bangladeshi leaders often enter Tripura to avoid harassment in their own country. Moreover, this time, the Centre has instructed the state governments close to Bangladesh as well as the BSF and other security forces to keep a vigil on political and security development in the neighbouring country.

Tripura: B'desh offers Multi-Protocol; Sherpur port

Agartala, May 16: With consistent efforts by Indian authorities, Bangladesh has finally agreed to offer Multi-Protocol status to Sherpur river port for carrying goods by water-way from other parts of India to Tripura via Kolkata. Official sources here today said that as per the agreement, Bangladesh would allow India to use both water and surface transport for carrying goods from Kolkata to Agartala via Sherpur.
