Mandovi and Konkankanya Express trains get ISO certification

New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) Two premium trains of Konkan Railway -- Mandovi Express and Konkankanya Express -- have been granted ISO 9001:2000 certification for providing a host of quality services to the passengers on-board, including sumptuous cuisine and spray air freshners.

The certification was made by QS Zurich AG after a thorough inspection of facilities and services, including coaching maintenance (mechanical and electrical) and catering and linen service, in these trains.

Kokan Railway had earlier received ISO 9001:2000 certification for Ratnagiri and Madgaon railway stations in the last two years.

The ISO certification for the two trains covered area of coach maintenance, like top deck cleanliness, maintenance of passenger amenities in coaches and undergear safety equipment examination of the rakes.

The agency inspected the trains over a period of seven months and found that the services being provided were of international standards.

''Train journey experience for passenger travelling between Mumbai and Goa has definitely become more delightful with new on-board services introduced in these trains,'' a Railway Ministry official said today.

He said Konkan Railway had made considerable efforts in providing quality service to passengers in these trains.

The catering includes a sumptuous fare of South Indian and Chinese delicacies and is a huge hit with the passengers.

Recently, Konkan Railway introduced ob-Board Services in these two trains. These include liquid soap/tissue paper in toilets and spray air freshers in AC coaches, periodical cleaning of toilets and mopping and sweeping in all coaches during the journey of the trains, use of disinfectants in toilets and providing good quality toilet soap to confirmed passengers in 1AC and 2AC coaches.

Amarnath pilgrimage suspended for second day

Srinagar, June 12 : The Amarnath pilgrimage continued to remain suspended from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes for the second day today due to heavy snowfall and incessant rains at several places along the track to the holy cave shrine, leaving thousands of devotees stranded enroute, officials said.They said while 18 inches of snow was recorded at Mahagunas, six inches of snowfall was received at the holy cave shrine, making it extremely difficult for the pilgrims to undertake the holy journey.....
