Both houses pay obituary references to former PM, MLAs

Srinagar, July 19 (UNI) Both the houses of Jammu and Kashmir Legislature today paid obituary references to former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, and legislators Mohammad Ayub Khan, Haji Buland Khan, Abdul Qadoos Azad and Abdul Khaliq Mir.

In the Lower House, Assembly speaker Tara Chand moved the obituary references. Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar, Health and Medical Education Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, Leader of the Opposition Abdul Rahim Rather and CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami were among those who spoke the obituary references.

In the Upper House, Legislative Council acting Chairman P Namgyal moved the obituary references.

Those who spoke the obituary references included Mohammad Yousuf Taing, Farida Mir, Ashok Sharma, Mohammad Rashid Qureshi, Abdul Ghani Vakil, Lal Mohammad Sabir, Prof Bhim Singh, Nizam-ud-din Bhat and Bilal Ahmed Khan Lodhi.

The Upper House later observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed leaders.

Complete 'bandh' hits life in Jammu

Jammu, May 22: Normal life was hit here today as the city observed a complete ''bandh'', called by several Sikh organisations against the alleged ''blasphemous'' activities of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
