Musharraf rules out Pak emergency over attacks

Islamabad, July 18: Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf today ruled out declaring a state of emergency in the face of mounting militant violence, a government official said.

''He said that an emergency will not be imposed,'' a senior government official cited Musharraf as telling senior newspaper editors.

More than 100 people, most of them police and soldiers, have been killed in suicide blasts and shootings in the northwest of the country this month.
