Cash award for Commonwealth medal winners

Indore, July 18: Two wrestlers, including city-resident Kripa Shankar Patel, have received a cash award of Rs 8 lakh recently for winning medals in the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship held at Cape Town, South Africa in 2005.

According to a release by the Wrestler Federation of India, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has awarded Kripa Shankar Patel and Shokinder Tomar for their remarkable performance.

Kripa had bagged a gold medal each in freestyle and Greco Roman events, while Shokinder got a silver medal.

WFI President Mr G S Mander handed over a cheque of Rs 6 lakh to Kripa and Rs 2 lakhs to Shokinder. Both the wrestlers are Arjuna awardees.
