Suspected naxals take away cash, jewellery

Shimoga (Karnataka), July 15: Close on the heels of the police encounter, in which five suspected naxalites were killed, a group of 'naxalites' today entered two houses in Tallurangadi forest area near Agumbe-Sringeri ghat section in this district and took away cash, jewellery and a rifle.

Police said five to six insurgents entered a house at Tallurangadi and looted Rs 50,000 cash and a rifle. Later, they barged into a nearby house and took away jewellery and cash from the inmates at gun point.

The ultras warned the inmates of the houses of dire consequences if they reported the incident to the police. Later, they escaped into the nearby forest.

Naxals belonging to CPI (Maoists) group had killed a police 'informer' across the border in Chikmagalur district and set ablaze a State Road Transport Corporation bus near Tallurangadi village recently.
