TGY launches eco-friendly 4-wheeler battery

Kolkata, Jul 9: Tata AutoComp GY Batteries Pvt Ltd (TGY), a joint venture company between Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd (TACO) and GS Yuasa International (GYIN), Japan, today launched 'Tata Green,' a range of environment-friendly four-wheeler and two-wheeler batteries that will revolutionise the Indian automotive market.

The initiative also marks the groups' first foray into the automotive retail business.

Speaking on the occasion, TACO Managing Director D S Gupta said ''Tata Green brings the advanced technology of GS Yuasa of Japan. It is the first amongst a series of hi-tech automotive batteries. This begins our foray into the retail and aftermarket segments of our business. We are commited to our customers in India and other global markets to bring them value packed products.

''The advanced technology from GYIN ensures that 'Tata Green' batteries do not require top-ups or maintenance for the first 1 lakh km for the four-wheeler range and the same are almost negligible in case of two-wheeler batteries. The distinctive design in car batteries is the calcium-calcium battery, which minimises water loss, reduces self-discharge, increases storage time and provides best protection from acid spillage and sparks,'' Mr Gupta said.

TGY CEO Yogesh Dhawan said, ''Our revolutionary technology allows us to not only offer our customers the most superior product with highest warranties in the market, but also at an affordable price.

''As the Indian automotive industry matures at a rapid rate, 'Tata Green' will constantly offer newer technologies to Indian customers,'' Mr Dhawan maintained.

Launched in a phased roll out, ''Tata Green'' ranges of batteries have been introduced in 11 states and the range would be available across the country in the next four months, he informed.
