Niaz seeks bodies of J

Srinagar, July 9 (UNI) Senior Congress leader Mohammad Sharief Niaz today urged the Uttarakhand government to shift to Jammu and Kashmir the bodies of two labourers who died in a cloudburst at Rudraprayag in that state last week.

In a statement here, he also demanded the release of ex-gratia relief in favour of the families of the deceased.

Of the four labourers, two hailed from Doda district in Jammu region and the other two from Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh.

The labourers have been identified as Nazir Ahmed and Mohammad Amin (both residents of Joura village in Thatri area of Doda district), and Mohammad Yousuf and Ajaz Ahmed (both of Saree village in Chamba district of Himachal Pardesh). They were working with the Uttarakhand State Forest Corporation at Rudraparyag.

Jaya appeals to Mamata to call off her fast

Chennai, Dec 27: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa has appealed to Trinamool Congress President Mamata Banerjee to call off her fast, which entered 24th day today. A release from the AIADMK office tonight said, Ms Jayalalithaa had written a letter to Mamata Banerjee appealing her to call off the fast. Ms Jayalalithaa also telephoned her and urged her to call off the fast, the release added. A.....
