Koirala expresses grief over demise of Chandra Shekhar

Kathmandu, July 9 (UNI) Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today said he was deeply saddened by the passing away of Chandra Shekhar, former Prime Minister of India, and extended heartfelt condolences to Dr Manmohan Singh.

In a message of condolences sent to Prime Minister Singh, Mr Koirala said India has lost a prominent political leader, who devoted his career to uplift the common masses and for the overall progress of the nation.

He said Nepal has also lost a true and sincere friend, who had a deep sense of affection for Nepal and consistently lent his support for the aspirations of the Nepalese people.

Meanwhile, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel left for New Delhi today to extend condolences on behalf the government on the demise of the former Prime Minister and socialist leader.

Central members of the Nepali Congress Shailaja Acharya, Chakra Prasad Banstola and Dr Shekhar Koirala also left for New Delhi to take part in the funeral of late Chandrashekhar on behalf the Nepali Congress.

No consular access to indians in Pak jail: Pranab

New Delhi, Mar 14:  The government today informed the Lok Sabha that at least 92 Indian civilian prisoners in Pakistani jails have yet not been given consular access."Besides 390 fishermen and 149 civilian prisoners and 74 PoWs are still languishing in Pakistani jails," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in a written reply.The minister was asked whether the government had any reports of inhuman treatment meted out to Indian prisoners in Paksitan.The minsiter said Indian prisoners released by Pakistan had reported.....
