Karunanidhi pays respect to Chandra Shekhar

New Delhi, July 9 (UNI) Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu today placed a wreath on the mortal remains of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar on behalf of DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi as a mark of respect to the departed leader.

Mr Baalu, who is leader of the DMK Parlamentary Party, visited the residence of the late former prime minister and consoled the bereaved family members.

He also recorded his condolence message in the register placed at the residence of the deceased Samajwadi Janata Party leader.

Mr Chandra Shekhar died after a prolonged illness yesterday morning at the Apollo Hospital where he was undergoig treatment for cancer for the past three months.

New Delhi, Dec 13: The CPI(M) today asked the countrymen to avoid travel on railways and other public transport tomorrow in view of its All-India General Strike to press for acceptance of the Left's 16-point charter of demands, including legislation to provide social security for the country's 370 million unorganised workers. Tripura gets highest devpt target in 10th plan

Agartala, May 10: Tripura has surpassed five other Northeastern states in terms of development during Tenth Five Year Plan. According to Planning Commission's data, besides Tripura, Sikkim and Nagaland have also scored better and the performance of other NE states -- Asom, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Arunachal, was not up to expection.
