Haryana earmarks Rs 2.21 cr for strip plantation

Chandigarh, July 9 (UNI) The Haryana government has earmarked an amount of Rs 2.21 crore for strip plantation on government land in the state during the current financial year.

Stating this here today, an official spokesman said strip forests occupied a pivotal place in state forestry. Of the total forest area of 1,55,066 hectares, strips cover 81,167 hectares and constitute 53 per cent of the forests, he added.

He said forests were essentially located in ecologically fragile zones and also included sanctuaries and national parks, he added.

To cover the strip forests in anout 6000 remaining villages in the state, the scheme would continue during the current financial year.

He said major part of forest revenue comes from strip forests only. Strip forests were felled as a part of working plan prescriptions from time to time and these strips needed to be regenerated immediately after felling by way of fresh plantation or through maintenance of natural regenerations.
