London, July 9 (UNI) With England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman David Morgan all set to occupy the ICC President's post following the death of Percy Sonn, the Board has invited nominations to take his place for the period until March 31, 2009.
Nominations will close on July 23 and if there is only one nominee from the 18 first class counties and Marylebone Cricket Club, the ECB will ask the 41 members of the ECB (the 18 first class counties, MCC, the Minor Counties Cricket Association and the non first class county boards) to endorse that candidate as chairman.
''The new chairman will take office on October 1, 2007 and will serve for 18 months until March 31, 2009,'' an ECB statement said today.
''However, if there is more than one nominee from the 18 first-class counties and MCC, an election will be called and conducted by the Electoral Reform Society.
''Ballot papers would be sent out on July 30 with the ballot closing on August 13,'' it stated.
On August 14, the result will be announced and the 41 members of the ECB will be requested to endorse the winning candidate. Two weeks later, on August 28, the endorsement period will close and the new chairman of the ECB will be confirmed.
The call for an election of chairman was approved by the board of the ECB meeting at Lord's on July 3. This decision was taken after Morgan was confirmed as ICC President Elect at the ICC Annual Meeting at Lord's on June 28 and indicated his intention to stand down.
