CPI State Secretary and 16 others released on Bail

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, July 9 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) Andhra Pradesh Council Secretary Dr K Narayana and 16 other party leaders were released on bail from Rajahmundry Central Jail today.

It may be recalled that the Party leaders were arrested last Thursday evening at Rajavaram village in Koyyalagudem mandal on the charges of criminal trespass, obstructing official duties and sedition. They were remanded till July 19 to Rajahmundry Central Jail.

However, the CPI took strong exception alleging fabrication of an illegal case under section 124(a) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against its Party State Secretary and other leaders. In wake of these cases, the CPI had launches a statewide agitation. In West Godavari, party activists had burnt effigy of In-charge Collector V Durgadas, who claimed that he had asked officials to file non-bailable cases against the leaders.

Meanwhile, the police officials had decided to withdraw the cases. The Koyyalagudem police filed the chargesheet today.

The policce also framed charges under sections 353 read with 149 (obstructing official duties), section 332 (attack on duty officers), section 447 (criminal trespass), section 147 (illegal mobilisation) of IPC.

After the filing of this, CPI State Secretariat Member K Subbaraju, District Committee Member Bandi Venkateswara Rao and others had moved a bail petition in the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court.
