A 7-day state mourning declared in Punjab, Haryana, UT

Chandigarh, July 9 (UNI) A seven-day state mourning has been declared in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Union Territory till July 14 as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar who breathed his last in New Delhi yesterday.

The national flag will be flown at half mast on all buildings, where it is flown regularly, in the twin states and the Union territory.

There will be no official entertainment during the period of state mourning from July 8 to 14, official spokesmen said.

The Punjab Government today declared a holiday in all its offices, educational institutions and other establishments in the state as a mark of respect to the late leader.

The Haryana Government also decided to close all its offices and those of Boards and Corporations throughout the state at 1330 hrs today as a mark of respect.

Pak reacts negatively to Benazir's assassination

Lahore, Dec 28: Across-section of people in Pakistan are mourning the loss of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in Rawalpindi"s Liaqat Bagh area late on Thursday evening. Most business centers have downed shutters, while public transportation has gone off the roads. A majority of citizens described the incident as a black day in the history of Pakistan. Muhammad Aslam, a businessman said, “We have been deprived of an internationally acclaimed political leader whose presence in Pakistan.....
