Kuwait Kannada Koota to organise World Conference

Bangalore, July 6: With a view to commemorating the Golden Jubilee of the formation of Karnataka, Kuwait Kannada Koota and Mangalore based 'Hrudayavahini' daily will organise a two-day 'World Kannada Culture Conference' in Kuwait from November 30 this year.

Briefing newspersons on the event here yesterday, Koota President K P Manjunath Sagar said various literary and cultural programmes have been lined up during the event, which would showcase the traditional art and culture of Karnataka in the Gulf Kingdom.

Over 100 artists from different parts of the state would be invited for the conference, he added.

More than 30,000 Kannadigas in Kuwait, who had close contacts with over a dozen other Kannada sanghas in the Gulf countries like Qatar, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Muscat and African countries like Kenya and Ethiopia would attend the conference Besides, delegates from the US and the UK were also expected to participate in the event, he noted.

Union Minister of state for Labour Oscar Fernandes, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and well known playback singer S P Balasubramaniam were likely to attend the event, Mr Sagar said.

Cauvery: Complete shutdown of K'taka on Feb 12

Bangalore, Feb 10: Karnataka will be completely shutdown on Feb 12 from 6 am to 6pm to support statewide bandh called by Kannada organisations against the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal verdict.
